Hernandez Concrete Works is a family-owned team of concrete contractors in Baton Rouge, pouring and repairing driveways, patios, sidewalks, slabs, pads and new slab foundations, and offering stamped concrete and patio covers, for homeowners across East Baton Rouge and Livingston parishes. The Hernandez name has served Baton Rouge area properties since 2013 through Hernandez Lawnscape, our sister company. Concrete Works is the family's dedicated concrete company, launched in 2026.

As a concrete company in Baton Rouge, we do things a little old-fashioned. Gerardo Hernandez walks the property himself, explains what is actually wrong, and puts a written estimate in your hands. If only one or two sections are broken, he says so and quotes only that. And the job is not finished until the site is clean.

## One broken section or a whole new driveway?

Most calls we get are for one or two broken sections, not a whole driveway or sidewalk. Gerardo sees three causes most often: tree roots lifting a section, which is very common near trees; heavy delivery trucks on residential driveways that were not built for that weight; and old concrete at the end of its life.

Usually it's one or two sections. If the rest of your driveway is solid, we'll tell you, and we'll only quote what needs fixing. The broken panels are cut out, the base is prepared, and new concrete is poured to meet the good concrete that stays. When a driveway is broken up enough, full replacement is the honest answer, and we will tell you that too.

## A Baton Rouge concrete company that plans for the rain

Louisiana averages about 60 inches of rain a year, and a slab that holds water or sends it toward the house will cause trouble long after the crew leaves. Years of landscaping and drainage work through Hernandez Lawnscape taught our family where water goes after a downpour. As Gerardo puts it, we also need drainage on concrete a lot of times.

So slope and runoff are planned as part of the pour, not left as somebody else's problem. Water goes away from the house. The ground matters too: USDA soil data flags shrink-swell as a limitation for slab homes on roughly 4 in 10 acres in both East Baton Rouge and Livingston parishes, which is one more reason base preparation is never the place to save money.

## Why the low bid is low

Most homeowners collect two or three quotes, and price is the thing they know least about. Some are pricing a project for someday, some had the right number in mind, and some are surprised. When one bid comes in well under the others, ask why.

Gerardo's answer is plain: low bids save on overhead, labor and the profit they want, a little of everything. Often the savings come out of the parts you cannot see, like the mix, the base and the slope. A cheaper bid usually saves money on labor, prep, or materials. We'll show you exactly where your money goes.

> "Sometimes it's one section where you have a tree close to the driveway or the sidewalk. Not everything needs to be replaced." (Gerardo Hernandez, owner)

## What we stand for

- **Our Name Is On It.** Hernandez is not a brand invented for marketing. It is the family's name, and every driveway, patio and slab carries it. No job is too small to meet that standard.
- **Right Beneath the Surface.** Bad concrete can look good on day one. Quality lives in the parts nobody sees: a clean mix, the right water, a compacted base, proper slope, and rebar where it counts.
- **Honest Diagnosis.** Repair what is broken; replace only what needs replacing. Every customer gets a clear explanation of what is wrong, why, and what it will take, in a written estimate.
- **Finished Means Clean.** The finish line is not when the concrete is poured. It is when the forms are pulled, the debris is hauled, and the property looks better than it did before we arrived.

## Frequently asked questions

### What areas do you serve?

We serve Baton Rouge, St. George, Inniswold, Shenandoah, Old Jefferson, Merrydale, Monticello, Brownfields, Baker, Central and White Hills in East Baton Rouge Parish, and Denham Springs, Walker and Watson in Livingston Parish. We are based in the Shenandoah area of St. George (70817).

### How do I get an estimate?

Call (225) 363-8576 or send the estimate form. Gerardo walks the property himself, explains what is actually wrong, and puts a written estimate in your hands. He sometimes gives a range on the phone, but almost always sends a written estimate so you can compare bids properly.

### Are you insured?

Yes. Hernandez Concrete Works is insured, with general liability and workers' compensation. That covers your property and the people working on it. Ask every contractor you are considering the same question, and ask to see proof.

### Do you do foundation repair or slab leveling?

No. We pour new slab foundations for metal buildings, sheds, pole barns, shops and garages, but we do not repair foundations, level houses or do slab jacking. If your problem is a foundation problem, Gerardo will say so plainly and point you toward a foundation specialist.

### How long before I can use new concrete?

Wait a full day, 24 hours, before walking on new concrete, and 5 to 7 days before driving on it or putting anything heavy on it. Keep delivery trucks off a new driveway during that window, since heavy trucks are one of the most common causes of cracked driveways Gerardo sees.

### Are you the same company as Hernandez Lawnscape?

We are sister companies in the same family. Hernandez Lawnscape does landscaping, drainage and irrigation and has served Baton Rouge area properties since 2013. Hernandez Concrete Works is the family's dedicated concrete company, launched in 2026.

### What are your hours?

We are open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm and Saturday from 9am to 1pm, and closed on Sunday. Call (225) 363-8576 during those hours, or send the estimate form any time.

Looking for concrete contractors in Baton Rouge who will tell you the truth about your driveway, patio or slab? Call (225) 363-8576 or ask for a written estimate. Gerardo will walk the property, explain what it needs, and quote only that. We live here too. Our name has been on Baton Rouge properties since 2013, and it'll be here when your driveway is twenty years old.
